Most who know Christopher Poole, aka moot, simply know him best as the creator of 4chan, and to a much lesser extent, the much more work safe website, Canvas. With Canvas, images can be remixed easily through built-in applications, but moot wants to focus less on remixes and more on people’s “creative side” by creating their original content through drawing. Thus, he announced the birth of DrawQuest, an app for the iPad and moot’s newest project. As it’s described on its blog, “DrawQuest is a community that brings people together around daily drawing challenges.”

"Unlock your creativity with DrawQuest"

“Unlock your creativity with DrawQuest”

DrawQuest is not only a free app, but it also doesn’t require skill, more so about expressing oneself. One thing DrawQuest emphasizes on is one’s own creativity, promoting one’s own original creations. In some ways, you could compare it to Draw Something.

Unlike the latter, though, DrawQuest isn’t about winning or competition. The point is to bring out one’s creative habit. While DrawQuest might sound similiar to Canvas in concept, TechCrunch reports, “DrawQuest isn’t a replacement for Canvas—it’s actually part of the Canvas family. Poole says Canvas is alive and well and seeing high engagement from the community.” And while DrawQuest feels like it’s geared for kids, it’s something that can be enjoyed by anyone, with friends and family.

DrawQuest is a free drawing community exclusively for iPad.

Every day, people of all ages come together on DrawQuest to draw the Quest of the Day. What’s a Quest? It’s a challenge to use your imagination and complete a drawing. Some examples:

☺ Create your own superhero

☃ Dress up the snowman!

☽ What did you dream last night?

The app is said to have an “easy-to-use” editor, allows users to follow other Questers, share your works and even watch other people’s DrawQuests “stroke by stroke”. DrawQuest is still in its early stages of development, so there might be loads of new features to come. If you have an iPad, you can download DrawQuest here.
